Our Quilts!

2001 - Vera House - Battered Women's Shelter Quilt

Helen and Jeb pitched the idea to the women in their family about making a quilt for Vera House in Syracuse, NY. Each participant made a quilt block incorporating the White Ribbon for battered women. The blocks were mailed to Helen and she put sashing around them. The women all met at Helen's for a women's weekend where they put batting and backing with the quilt top and hand tied it and bound it. It was a wonderful weekend! We had a great time and this quilt began the journey of what has become the Sew Sew Sisterhood. Below are a list of women who participated and their relationship to Jeb.

2005 - Baby Quilt For Ava (Nick and Laura's daughter)

Carol contacted Jeb about making a baby quilt for her son Nick and his Wife Laura. They decided that Carol would pick out the fabric and then mail all the participants yardages with no directions other than a block size. Everyone could make whatever they wanted with the fabrics. How could we have anticipated the creativity! This project really showed what we could accomplish and create. Once all the blocks were mailed back, Carol and Jeb sashed the blocks to complete the top. Jeb finished the batting, backing and binding and hand quilted around the blocks. Below are a list of women who contributed to Ava's quilt:

  • Fran Bouchard (Sister-in-law)
  • Jill Scully (niece)
  • Kathleen Scully (niece)

2005-2006 - Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Quilt

Jeb's oldest sister Polly was diagnosed with MS when Polly was in her early 40's (Polly is 19 years older than Jeb). When Polly's daughter, Colette was diagnosed with MS, we thought - what are the odds? Then Leslie got a diagnosis of a "Clinically Isolated Symptom". Jeb asked who would be up for a new quilt project - making a quilt for the Vermont MS Chapter to raffle. Jeb used her brother Ron's color book to pick out the beautiful batiks. Jeb cut yardages and sent the fabrics to everyone to complete blocks or sections. They all got mailed back to Jeb to complete the top. Tammy machine quilted it and Jeb bound it. Although no one will ever see it, each person's name was printed on the back of each of their blocks. This was the first quilt that Tammy quilted for the group. We can't thank her enough for her time and expertise. We raised over $800!!

2006 - Cancer Quilt

Jill has a friend who is the Executive President of the Moonlight Cancer Foundation in California. The organization was having a fund raiser and Jill solicited the group to work on a quilt for their auction. At this point, Jeb thinks we can tackle a fairly complicated pattern. Instead of everyone doing the same block, everone if given the task of making smaller blocks that will piece together to make the quilt pattern. All the mini-blocks were mailed to Helen to make the larger blocks. This proved to be quite the test! Apparently everyone's 1/4 inch isn't the exactly same! But Helen managed to get through it and Jeb put the larger blocks together to form the top and Tammy machine quilted. We learned a lot from this project and the final product was just beautiful! Since Polly was diagnosed with cancer in July, 2006, we were very proud to show her the top. Not sure she liked the colors but I'm sure she appreciated our efforts! At this point, Jeb admits to loving purple and green. :)

2007 - Ron's Quilt (our brother or uncle)

Ron had asked me if I would make him a quilt. So he designed the pattern with my quilt software and actually went to the quilt store to pick out fabrics! He did a wonderful job. He thought only I was working on the quilt but secretly, we all were! BZ's task was to design stencils of things that remind us of Ron that we used to hand quilt in the large purple blocks. The top got completed Aug 26, 2007 and the hand quilting was completed Oct 27th. I completed the binding on Oct 30th.
